Birth Control Pill and Squamous LesionsFrom: Andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 2 May 2002 08:41:15 -0500 (CDT)
I recently had a PAP smear come back as abnormal and it appears that I have high grade squamous cells (HSIL as I understand from researching it). I am 30 years old, have had regular annual PAPs and have never had so much as a yeast infection, so this came as quite a surprise. Of course, I have to go for a colposcopy and have a biopsy done at that time. I started taking Tri-Phasil at 19 and discontinued it at 24, then started taking it again about 3 years ago. My mother thinks it might be a good idea to stop taking the pill altogether in light of these results. I am wondering though, is there any connection between taking the pill and developing cervical lesions? I have tried researching this on my own but most info that I have read is vague and brief or else contradictory.
