secondary amenorrheaFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 12 Apr 2002 18:06:09 -0500
I'm 25, 5'7, 120 lbs, and at a loss about what to do. My obgyn has tried to put me on bc pills for my secondary amenorrhea (which last lasted several years--I have one or two periods per year) but I felt extremely moody and overly emotional on these pills so I stopped taking them. I feel fine now but am afraid I am endangering my health. Plus I am hyperthyroid after having my overactive thyroid surgically removed 10 yrs ago (I take synthroid) and I just found out that my TSH levels are very low--this is a new issue though, it has been normal until very recently. So I am seeing my regular doctor next week to solve this issue. But after seeing several different doctors, none can give me a possible reason for the amenorrhea and the only solution is unbearable for me. Plus if I discontinue bc pills, how will I ever get pregnant since I seem not to be ovulating? Does anyone have suggestions? Amy
