I also see that "bashing" goes on here quite frequently and also agree that it doesn't come from the doctors who are remaining in "professional gear" here (and rightly so). BUT many too many of the women here are not so polite, and some are even a bit "over protective";-) and come on a bit too strong IMHO.

I know many women who do not have internal or breast exams because, bottom line (you should excuse the expression) is they find them too embarrassing/humiliating to undergo without sufficient cause. The doctors may not like reading that, but that's the way it is. (BTW, no, I am not one of them, my FP insists or I don't get my asthma meds). Yes, these women know the risks; all but one work in the medical/critical care field as I do. The HPV test might be one that they'd utilize. I would doubt that insurance would cover the cost or that it would be "cheap", but a positive test MIGHT motivate them to be seen by a GYN. Maybe. Point here being that many women who read this forum don't have nor intend to have a personal physician in the near future, which may be one reason, besides temporary reasurance, that sites like this are so popular.

Robin, it is never too late. Your local community college can give you some fast track pointers. The profession is recruiting now like never before. Just some personal advice though; look before you leap:-) There are many careers in healthcare that may suit you and be a satisfying experience, nursing is just one of them, most recognizable, but just one.
