Re: Fleet Phospho-sodaFrom: Cindy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 30 Mar 2002 19:07:24 -0600 (CST)
Valerie, from someone who has had to do numerous bowel preps for surgery and scopes, 8 oz of Fleet's Phosphasoda is a standard amount. it's a little easier on your system to take it in at least 2 stages about 4 hours apart. doing only clear liquids the day of the prep will help too. remember to drink LOTS of water! that is very important, it is a strong laxative and you have to head off dehydration. these preps taste nasty. what works for me is to have one glass with the fleets and another full glass of water. I hold my nose (without a sense of smell, your taste is diminished) and toss the fleets down like it's a shot. then I quickly follow with the water to wash away the taste. some people use straws so that the fleets bypasses the tongue. also, I'd recommend you take it all at least 4 hours before you plan to go to bed (6 hrs is better). otherwise you will still be running to the bathroom when it's time to go to bed. and you want to get a good night sleep before surgery. good luck!!
