Generic Birth Control Pills

I was wondering if the generic version of Desogen, Apri (desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol) tablets are just as effective as the name brand? My pharmacist suggested the generic as an alternative to the increasingly costly Desogen. I have had no problems with Desogen and am wary of the generic unless I can be confident that it has the same effectiveness and safety.
