REPOST - pre-menstrual sciatic painFrom: Anna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Mar 2002 09:36:53 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I've never had any menstrual problems (1 cramp in 22 years, now in cycle 15 off-pill, still very regular and no complaints), but my last two periods were funny: 3-4 days before, I'd get the most horrible sciatic pain shooting down my legs, with sitting, lying, walking, sleeping nearly impossible, I lived on painkillers and had a heating pad hanging out of my pants a all times. (Talk about insult&injury...) I've never had any problems with my back, no injuries, didn't take up any new routines -- this came out of the blue. Even more strangely, day 1 of period, pain is almost gone, day 2, all pretty much back to normal. I know 2 incidents don't really establish a pattern, but this seems just too freaky to be coincidence. I never "throw out" my back, and then twice, in a row, just before menstruation, whose arrival fixes things?? Has anybody heard of this before? BTW, I did a medline search, and all it came up with were herpes and emdometriosis of the sciatic nerve, and for both, the symptoms don't match. So this is unheard of? I am a freak? :-) Puzzled, Anna
