>My doctor first tested my hormone levels 3-4 months following my miscarriage and d&c. I bled for about six weeks after my surgery and in the meantime had started on the birth control pills. Even after the bleeding stopped I was still having a lot of cramping in between periods and I had told my dr that I was gaining weight on the Loestrin. He told me he was checking my thyroid among other things. When the blood work came back he said my prolactin was slightly elevated and that he wanted to repeat the blood test in two months. We did that and it came back a little higher that time. He wanted me to schedule an MRI at that time but I didn't feel that was necessary for such low levels. He told me to have it checked again in another two months. We did that and my prolactin was 34 that time. He then told me to see an endocrinologist which I really don't want to do either. The only thing that happened in between the second and third blood tests is that I swithched from the Loestrin to the Lunelle. I forgot to mention that during this time I have been trying to regulate my cycles and we haven't been able to. I will skip two or three periods at a time. Since I have been on the Lunelle, I have only had one period, which was very heavy with clots and tissue. This bothered me but my doctor thought it was fine since I was not pregnant. My gyn says that birth control pills sometimes cause the prolactin to elevate, but my family dr disagrees. I would have a hard time believing that it is stress in my case,as I feel very stress free at this particular time in my life. I guess it would depend on what is considered to be stress but I don't seem to have that problem at this time.
