Re: 'Rapid Recovery Program' after hysterectomy

Hi Nina,

I have never heard of this program, but having been someone who has had a TAH I think it sounds completely nuts.

A TVH might be a slightly different ballgame, but still two weeks is way too short. Just to heal physically from the surgery takes up to 8 weeks. After having a TAH, even if everything goes perfectly you will feel very tired. To work full time I just can't imagine. Even if you have a desk job where you are sitting all day, you are going to be tired. If there is any lifting involved, you won't be able to do that for a while.

I had major complications during my hyst and it took me over a year to recover. I returned to work part-time about 4 months later.

I am curious about who thought up this idea. Sounds like managed care to me. I don't want you to have the wrong expectation about this surgery, it is major and it takes more time than two weeks to recover.

Best wishes, D.N.
