It is extremely painful >and I find it almost impossible to sit, walk or lie down. <snipped descriptions of diagnoses of bartholinitis or infected hair follicle, and antibiotic prescriptions> i've had recurring bartholin's cysts and bartholin's abscesses for the last four years, and your symptoms sound an awful lot like mine. however, i know there are other glands in that area that can get infected. if you've checked the archives, you might already have read this article about bartholin's cysts and treatments for them, but i'm going to pass on the link anyway because it's the most helpful thing i've read on the subject (not to mention that one of the docs from this forum wrote it!): http://www.aafp.org/afp/980401ap/hill.html my understanding now is that antibiotics alone won't help bartholin's abscesses. over the years i have been treated with antibiotics, with a word catheter, and with sitz baths only; last week i finally had a marsupialization. i know from experience that it's hard to get treatment for this kind of thing when ob/gyn offices can be booked up for months in advance. i am not a doctor, but i'd suggest that if the pain continues to be as bad or worse tomorrow and if you start running a high fever, you should go to the emergency room. if you think you can wait until monday, call your gyn's office first thing in the morning and try to get a same-day appt. pain that bad should be taken seriously. i also agree with kristy that you might want to get a second opinion. the first gyn i saw for my bartholin's cyst didn't identify it as a bartholin's cyst at all; my subsequent docs have all been astonished that the first one could see it as anything else. on the other hand, i've also read about other things being misdiagnosed as bartholin's cysts. in any case i wish you an accurate diagnosis and speedy relief.
