Hi there, BCP's do make your periods lighter, although they generally do not go away completely unless you are skipping the placebo pill or are on depo. It is ALWAYS a good idea to take a pregnancy test if you miss a period. If this is the same doctor that you had when you were on BCP's for 15 years, and provided that you didn't get pregnant while on the pill, this might be her reason for not suggesting a preg. test.
