urethra pain yeast infection?

I recently wrote re vaginal and urethra pain. Dr reckons it may be a yeast infection but I have had yeast infections before and they have not caused stabbing pain in the urethra area. Is this common? I always associated yeast infections with burning and stinging. can you think of any other causes of the intermittent stabbing pains?
