Either way, it needs to be looked at. You do not have to go to your mother! You can go to your doctor, they CANNOT tell your mom that you have been there. (you need to ask the doctor to "code" the exam so that your parents cannot find out what you went there for when they get he insurance statement. You can just tell then you had a throat culture for strep throat.) Or, you can go to Planned Parenthood and get and exam there. They will screen you for STD's and do a pap smear; both are very important if you ar havingt sex. Birth control is also a very good idea. Talk to your doctor or Planned Parenthood about this!! Planned Parenthood's number is 1 800 230 PLAN. They are totally confidential, and will not and cannot tell your paretns no matter what. They won't bill your insurance if you tell them not to. They are also on what's called a "sliding scale", which means you pay what you can. Take care, Maggie
