My 35 yr old daughter,grad student, gained about 20 extra pounds in a two month period this fall and started having hot flashes last summer. She is always hot when everyone else is cold. She is on birth control pills and Paxil for anxiety. She has always tended to be slightly over weight but was stable. She does tend to eat high fat foods and carve carbs. She is not getting any exercise and is in a very stressful, demanding study program. She has always had some acne problems. The student health center tested her for thyroid and it is normal. Her doctor felt the Paxil was not involved because she has been on it for over a year and these symptoms started about 6 months ago. Could this be a hormone problem or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
