[Birth Control] Ortho Cyclen vs. Ortho Tri Cyclen

I recently switched birth control pills from tri cyclen to regular cyclen. I was doing fine on the tri cyclen, but i wanted to skip periods when needed and my gyno suggested i try cyclen instead since it supposedly works better when you want to skip a period since you can take pill packs one after another and not take the green pills. is this right? is it safe? I was wondering what the difference between the two pills are and if one is more effective than the other?
