Re: [Birth Control] What the heck is an IUD? KristinFor more information on symptoms and treatment of endometriosis visit www.EndometriosisZONE.org. From: L. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 2 Oct 2001 19:34:45 -0500 (CDT)
When I had mine put in, it wasnt very painful, it was like having a smear test (I think you call them pap tests? cervical screening test), and it didnt take that long either. I was advised to take some Nurofen (Ibuprofen) b4 going to make it more comfortable. Side effects are the same as the pill (maybe greasy skin etc) but not normally as bad as the hormones are supposed to be confined to the womb. For the first day or two you can feel it, but it isnt uncomfortable, just strange. After that I felt nothing. There are two strings that come down through the cervix, to make it able to be removed, and you have to check these every month after your period to make sure it is still there (although it VERY rarely falls out!) and the gynae or doctor should trim these strings so that your husband or partner cant feel them during sex, my husband didnt ever notice. Personally I would have it again if I wasnt having a baby and then surgery (which will make me unable to have a baby anyway so no need for it). I think there is a site for the Mirena coil, try a search on the internet, it should tell you more about it on there. Good luck, Lisa xxxx At Tue, 2 Oct 2001, Kristin wrote: > >Thanks for your great reply.
