long light periods

I get long light periods that I can have a pantiliner all day but for a least a week and a half. I have just stopped nursing one week ago my 20 month and have been taking Alesse for birth control. Is this common for this birth control? This birth control made me have my period and has kept me regular. But should it last so long and be so light? Is it normal?
