gi or gyn?From: ams (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 24 Sep 2001 23:47:17 -0500 (CDT)
What kind of MD should I see? GI or GYN or Other? I am 35; had rectocele repair a year ago. For the past 5-6 weeks, have had a hard time with bowel movements. At first, I was worried it was the rectocele again--but I tried splinting and it hasn't helped. Instead of the stool being stuck in a pocket like before (before my repair, I couldn't pass the stool without splinting and/or using fingers in my vagina to push it out--even with taking Colace and Fibercon daily)--now it is coming out in (sorry to be so disgusting) thin strips (I am not constipated--it is soft). One time I could feel a lot of vaginal pressure so touched inside my vagina, and there were my bladder and my cervix right there at the opening. My question is--should I see a gi doc for bowel changes or (and I hope this doesn't sound crazy)is it possible that my uterus and/or bladder could be causing a partial obstruction of the stool passing? I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing, but I don't want to blow off bowel changes if it could be something. I have a friend who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a few months ago. Her only symptom was bowel changes. I don't want to sound paranoid, but I do know that what is happening right now is not normal for me. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
