LGSIL is a histologic diagnosis from a pap smear, from looking at what cells show up on the pap. CIN I is a pathologic diagnosis made from the microscopic examination of a biopsy specimen, and is much more accurate.

Occasionally these days, pap smears will be labeled LGSIL with CIN I in parentheses, or written underneath in smaller letters. This is a misleading way of reporting paps.
