Surgery on Clitoris as childFrom: Merle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 29 Jul 2001 23:12:19 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 51 yr. old woman with 3 kids. I am presently dealing with sexual abuse trauma from my childhood. One episode stands out. When I was 4 years old, my mother took me and my 10 year old sister to an OB/GYN for the same surgery. My sister was constantly masturbating which concerned my mother. The Dr. cut the skin that surrounds the clitoris to reveal lumps of smegma that were caught there which were "bothering" my sister. They did the same thing to me to prevent the problem with me. We had to rub ourselves with vasoline for weeks until the cut skin healed. This was very traumatic and painful. I cannot find any reference in any GYN book to this kind of procedure. This happened in 1954. Was this a normal procedure or was it an abnormal one that my mother thought was necessary? Where can I find more information about this kind of treatment?
