vaginal estrogen deficientFrom: Angie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 19 Jul 2001 20:51:30 -0500 (CDT)
I have been experiencing pain during intercourse and painful burning during menstration. My doctor recently told me that my "vaginal" estrogen is deficient (zero superficial cells). I am only 30 years old. I have been on birth control pills (ortho tri-cyclen) for a couple of years. She said the lack of estrogen could be related to the pills and suggested that I go off of them, but I don't understand that, since the pills contain estrogen. Everything I've been reading says that low vaginal estrogen is a sign of menapause!! What I want to understand is 1) what are the possible causes of this? and 2) what's the difference between vaginal estrogen and regular estrogen levels, and 3) is this going to affect my ability to get pregnant? Please Help.
