I was sent for an ultra sound in Jan/01 as I have had pelvic pain. They found what was very small fybroid. I went for my physical in June and my doctor sent me again for another ultra sound as something was enlarged. The result came back that the fybroid had grown quite a bit and now measured 6 cm's...thats since Jan this year? I was told we would do nothing and watch the fybroid. I have no issue with a conservative approach but did express that I am tired of a 10-14 day menstral cycle that is coming every 14-18 days. (I have been anemic in the past and endured major doses of ferrous gluconate. ) I also asked why I would be so swollen on the right side of my waist...it is easily noticable, plus the pain is no better. In our closing discussion I was told that this could lead to infertility and we would know know unitl I start to try to have a family, oh yes, she had seen someone whe had a 10cm fibroid have a family?! I have been given no options so I need some help! I guess I am asking a couple of questions that need answers:

1. when do you seriously start to look at what can be done with a fybroid? Do you wait till its 10cm's or look at it now when it is not too large.

2. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the length of my menstral cycle? Is it reasonable to expect someone in the year 2001 to live like this?

3. How does it affect fertitlity...should I be concerned?

Any info or experiences would be appreciated.
