Re: Is nursing baby contagious?From: Laura (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 20 Jun 2001 11:33:24 -0500 (CDT)
I got a yeast infection on my breast when my daughter had thrush. If this is the case, you may see obvious white patches in the baby's mouth. It is very easily passed back and forth and can be very painful. If a breast gets hot, red, itchy and has shooting pains through it, it could be yeast/thrush. It is treated with antifungals for you and the baby. Doesn't last long once you start treatment. If it is bacterial, and you are on the antibiotic too, you should be in good shape. Keep on nursing; don't let this discourage you. In the short-term, it is not fun to deal with an infection, but you are helping your child's immune system so much, and the comfort level of nursing is so high when they are sick. Good luck! hope you are both well soon. Laura
