Sure could be. The vagina should appear very inflamed and red if it is. Low, (as in postmenopausal), levels of estrogen will allow the lining of the vagina to become very thin and it does not protect the underlying tissue near as well. The symptom of burning is very frequent in this situation. A trial of estrogen vaginal cream should clear it up in 2-3 days if that is what it is.
