Thickened uterine lining

I 43 years old and have not had my period in over a year. Last month I started bleeding heavily, so I went to the gynocologist and was scheduled for an ultrasound. The results were that my uterine lining was 6 mm and the doctor prescribed progesterine for 3 months (10 days on 10 off) However I am worried that I may need other tests to determine if I have uterine cancer. Should I just accept the doctors advice without further testing? Thanks for your advice.
