Possible complications with cystoscopy

I am in constant horrific pain caused by a simple diagnostic procedure. I had a cystoscopy performed last week and woke up to find the urologist had to instert a stent, because he tore a ureter(sp.?). I was too groggy at the time to question it, but it doesn't sound right. The physician assures me this not uncommon with this type of procedure. If he was only looking at the bladder how could he have torn a ureter, are'nt they beyond the bladder?
