Hi Janice,

I was responding to the poster about the pap smear...I did not write the original post. I was telling the poster the exam should not hurt.

While it is your body, and you do have a say, skipping the Pelvic Exam is not a good thing. This part of the exam is just as important as having a pap smear. Your ovaries are felt, as is your uterus. They can feel if you have any cysts, fibroids, etc. IMO, it is much better to have some discomfort (although it should not be. If the pelvic is that uncomfortable, your Dr. may be a bit rough. Just say something. I've had a few exams that were painful, but all I did was say something to the Dr. He repositioned his fingers, and it was okay). It is just like doing a breast exam. You wouldn't forgo this part of an exam, as it detects breast lumps that could be cancerous.

Again, just my opinion.
