The current standard antibody blood tests detect HIV within 3 months. Other blood tests are more expensive, done less often, and can detect the virus more quickly. If you are having flu-like symptoms suggestive of early HIV infection, and are at risk, you may want to ask your health care provider about such tests. Most people use the antibody tests.
