Yes, you definitely can have vulvodynia and it effect just one area... "Triamcinolone ointment" has helped me along with other treatments... it is a corticosteroid, which helped my raw skin heal... raw skin was one of my problems, caused by the alternating uses of metrogel (for bacterial infections) and monistat creams (for yeast infections)... my doctor's theory was that I never really had a bacterial or yeast infection... she believes my "counts" under the microscope were borderline, therefore the doctors before my vulvodynia doctor, decided to treat my symptoms as if I truly had either bacterial or yeast infections.... but these treatments alternated each month and caused my symptoms to get worse, not better....

Also, the pubic hair pain for me turned out to be a varicose vein that ran along my vulva. I did locate a few hairs that whenever I touched them, I would have pain that felt as if I were actually pulling the hair out... fortunately, it only acts up during my period, so I can tolerate it... but it can be removed if it becomes to bothersome.... and as Kristy said, lidocaine ointment also helps...

As Kristy says, there are sooooo many symptoms associated with vulvodynia... and an equal number of treatments....

See if your doctor can get into contact with Dr. Libby Edwards, her office number is (704) 367-0409 here in Charlotte, NC (her office staff is very well trained in answering any questions you may have regarding treatment, so you may want to call yourself).... if you want to email me you can at lmhill at carolina dot rr dot com.... You really need to find a doctor that will be sympathetic with you, the symptoms can literally drive you crazy... like I said in a prior post... every month I got closer to suicide... now life is WONDERFUL.... :) Good Luck to you...
