vulvar dermatology question- dr lynne please look at!From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 23 Mar 2001 18:21:51 -0600 (CST)
i posted a few weeks ago that i was having a mild external itching, it is just below the clitoris in the folds of the skin. after not showering for 24 hours, there seems to be a flaking or peeling of the skin a little. this has been going on for about 7 months, i have switched laundry soaps and regular soaps. i went to the gynecologist this morning. when i went 3 months ago, he did nto see anythign, so this time, i made sure a little of this peeling skin was present. he said it looked fine, did a little culture of the cells anyway, nothing showed. he gave me a steroid cream cream to control the itching. i felt sort of frustrated because its not like the itching is a huge problem. the problem for me is that i know my skin was not acting this way 7 months ago and i wonder why just this area and what else could it be? i asked the dr. if i should see a dermatologist, and he explained that this type of general itching is common for women. how do i know if it is serious enough to see a dermatologist? i read in a response from lynne before that there are many "dermatological entities unique to the vulvar region". is there anything natural i should try? i feel uneasy about this steroid cream. what else could this be and is this itching really as common as my dr said? sorry if that is too many questions. thanks!
