Amniotic fluid embolism-subsequent pregnanciesFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 9 Mar 2001 17:04:58 -0600 (CST)
Has anyone ever had a patient who became pregnant again following an AFE? What was the outcome of the delivery? By some miracle, both my daughter and I survived my AFE on January 17, 2001. It happened while my labor was being induced, shortly following an AROM. My doctor recognized immediately what was happening, despite not having seen a case of this in over 20 years. He rushed me in for an emergency c-section, then arranged for a group of specialists to work on me in a cardiac recovery room. I went into DIC and had over 18 units of blood tranfused into me. Even more miraculous, I suffered no neurological or other damage. I know that most doctors say that my chances of a reoccurance in future pregnancies are very low, but I'm wondering if anyone has actually seen someone have a healthy delivery following this. I would also love to talk with other AFE survivors out there. Is there any kind of support group?
