Vanda, I had an AFE on January 17, 2001, just two days after you posted this message. It happened as my labor was induced. My doctor had just broken my water and all of a sudden, I couldn't breathe and felt this terrible crushing pain in my chest. I looked at my doctor and husband and said, "I can't breathe, my chest is crushing, I'm going to die", then passed out. Luckily my doctor realized what was happening and rushed me in for an emergency C-section. My daughter was born completely healthy. I then went into DIC, had massive transfusions, then woke up in ICU several hour later on a ventilator. Luckily, I recovered very quickly, was off the vent in 30 hours, and all is well. I'm very interested in talking with someone else who's survived this, also very interested in knowing how the birth of your second child goes. It would break my heart to think I couldn't have more children, but my husband is terrified for us to even entertain the idea. If you have a chance, please feel free to email me. It's so hard to find people who've been through this and lived. Would write more, but I have a hungry baby calling. Best wishes!!!!!
