Re: HPV-Cancer causing strainsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 28 Feb 2001 22:22:17 -0600 (CST)
First, I am not a physican but I thought I would share this with you as a woman. When I found out I had HPV I totally flipped out. I panicked about cancer, infertility and other possible health problems. Fortunately, I found some great web sites that answered my questions and put my mind at ease. My doctor also provided me with information that helped clear up some misconceptions I had regarding HPV. The following web site I found contained informaton regarding HPV. http://www.obgyn.net/hysteroscopy/articles/jelovsek_hpv-cancer.htm " While types 16 and 18 are the major risk factors for cervical carcinoma, types 6 and 11 cause BENIGN (non-cancerous) genital lesions. Since only a few percent of the population ever develops crvical cancer, HPV is not a direct cause and effect." I hope this helps put your mind at ease. Do all the research you can. Remember that knowledge is power.
