Age related FSH levelFrom: andreaking (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Feb 2001 16:33:30 -0000
Hi, I'm nearly 33 and have been trying to conceive for last six years. I am just about to start IVF pending my next FSH test on day 1-3. I went through all the tests 3 years ago and though I don't know what the FSH was exactly, I was told at the time that all blood tests showed ok. I had a FSH on day 1 in Nov 2000 which was 12, then second week of Feb on day 2 it was 12.4. The consultant told me that level would be expected from someone older than myself, and would mean a probable 5% less chance of successful IVF treatment. He wouldn't elaborate on why exactly, too time consuming no doubt, but now I am worried. I have since spoken to a fertility sister who said it could be that my ovaries are chronologically older than me! Does that mean I'm going to have an early menopause? What should the FSH level be for an otherwise healthy (I have got endometriosis though) 33 year old? What age should you be to have a level of 12.4? I realise that IVF requires the level to be less than 10, is there any way I can reduce the level myself? either through diet, supplements etc? Thanks so much for any advice, having waited this long for IVF, I now feel that this is an extra hurdle I could have done without. Thanks again Andrea
