Complications during pregnancy

I am writing a story and I would like to know if I can be given some information for it. A character in this story is about five months pregnant and has fallen down the stairs. She is bleeding profusely. Unfortunately, the character in my story and her child will both die during child birth. Can you please send me information about what would/could/should happen in such a case? What kind of action could and should take place in the hospital? Is it possible that she is suffering from abruptio placentae? Do you have any ideas. I know that this is a very unfortunate incident in my story, but I would like to know if you can help? If you can't, I can understand. Thank you for your time and any help that you may offer me.
