Does light spotting satisfy need for period? From: AMS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 27 Jan 2001 23:14:03 -0600 (CST)
I am 49 years old, last 6 months became very irregular. Started with period that went for 2 1/2 months, sometimes very flooding, dropped my hematocrit 10 points with considerable dizzines and significant exercise intolerance. Then no bleeding for 2 months, needed 2 courses of progestins to finally get period. Gyn said we could see how things went provided I notify her if any bleeding longer than 10 days or more than 45 - 50 day interval between bleeds. On day 42 I started very light spotting, hardly enough to justify even a panty liner, and dark brown, slightly grainy discharge. Is this enough to call a period or am I going to have to call and start another course of progestin? I did have an endometrial biopsy with no hyperplasia. I could care less whether I bleed or not, I refuse to take provera again (become the wicked witch of the west) and aygestin makes me very sleepy. (like a pregnant cat, I just want to curl up in the sun and snooze all day even though I took it at bedtime.) I don't, however, want to ever bleed like this summer again!!! My uterus is enlarged, suggestive of fibroids though none seen on ultrasound.
