Christine, The other means of regulating a period is to utilize progesterone (Provera) on a periodic basis to induce periods. This is usually used in women who have either no or few periods. A woman takes the provera for 5-10 days four times per year to induce a period, mainly to keep the uterus healthy. The problems with this regimen are that is doesn't prevent irregular bleeding between these induced cycles and it doesn't prevent pregnancy. As a matter of fact, this regimen can actually induce ovulation. The pill is the easiest most effective means of regulating cycles. It has also been shown that no matter how long you are on the pill, there are no significant problems associated... Lynn
