Spotting with progesterone supplementationFrom: Kris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Oct 2000 20:30:14 -0600 (CST)
I've had two endo biopsies come back as being 4-5 days out of phase, so my RE has me supplement progesterone after ovulation. He prefers to use vaginal suppositories or crinone. He uses im injections with his ivf patients (which I'm not), and he never uses prometrium since he says it's not as effective. The crinone is a bit too pricey considering there are alternatives, so in the past I've used the suppositories. They are messy and gross and I'm not happy with this option. My RE finally gave in and gave me prometrium this past cycle. I was happy about it until I started to spot old, sticky blood for 5 days before my period started. I also only had a 10 day luteal phase, where the suppositories usually got me to day 12. (A normal luteal phase for me is 7-9 days with no supplementation.) My question, finally: was the spotting and shorter luteal phase likely because of the prometrium not being as effective as the vaginal route? I'm just curious. In reality, it doesn't matter since I've decided to follow my RE's wishes and use the supp's this next cycle, but I'd still like to know. Thanks for any help you might be able to give, Kris
