I guess I always considered the choice of a health care provider to be
like any other consumer choice -- I am free to choose based on whatever
criteria I like. I don't have to be fair. And unfortunately, when
choosing a doctor, you usually have much less
If I don't want to buy a house because the neighbors are Jewish (or
black or gay or whatever), I am under no obligation to do so (although I
can't refuse to sell my house in the same manner). Of course, who
knows, maybe I would get sued if my reasons were known!!! (Not that I
would do this -- just using it as an example).
I wonder if this is why many insurance companies do not publish the age
or gender of their participating doctors?
