Methotrexate is a potent anti-cancer drug, which, by the way, does not have FDA approval for this particular use. There have not been many studies done on it in this application, and most have not been well-designed. The time from initiation of treatment to resolution of the ectopic pregnancy is a fair bit longer with methotrexate than with surgery. You also risk having the tube rupture even while being treated with mtx. Also, patients were more likely to be debilitated after methotrexate therapy than surgery. There is alot of information on mtx on the web, from very reputable sites. I would encourage you to visit them, become informed and talk to your doctor about your concerns.
