Re: 23year old with diagnoses of early menopause helpFrom: Connie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 10 Jul 2000 23:19:11 -0500 (CDT)
Chris: First of all let me say, my heart goes out to you. I have a friend who went through a premature menopause at 24. She, like you, didn't have any insurance when first diagnosed. She did, however, have the blood tests done to confirm this and they were quite costly. To have further testing and to be in a study group, her endocrinologist got her into the National Institute of Health in Washington,D.C. She went there and spent a week, sadly, she was in the group whose menopause could not be reversed. She is on the pill so that she will get a period and feel "normal", she is now 35. I had her talk with my Reproductive endocrinologist who told her that she could "reverse" the menopause thru fertility drugs and such..I don't know what all that involves, but she chose not to do it. Also, her other option was egg donation, once again, she chose not to do this and to remain childless. Please ask your doctor if he/she can get you into the NIH as soon as possible, and since it is basically a study group there is no cost to you, just your weeks stay there. I wish you much luck and please let me know what happens. Feel free to contact me privately if you want and I will try and get you information regarding this.
