33 yo VIrgin and First Gyn Exam

Hello ~

I have searched the archives and visited the Gyn101 site, both of which have been very helpful and reassuring - as reassuring as possible. I am probably the oldest living American virgin whose name is not preceded by 'Sister'. I am 33, yes, a virgin, and I have never been able to fully insert a tampon, though I've tried. I know I'm long overdue for a gyn exam. I am certain the exam, especially the speculum part, will be painful for me, considering nothing has ever been 'there'.

Is there something I can do to prepare for this, maybe make it a bit easier? Maybe something to 'stretch' things a little?

Also, and this is equally embarrassing, I read at Gyn101 that my doctor will probably do a rectal exam - yikes. Should I use an enema or suppository to clean out before the examination?
