-- My LMT was 4/24/00 and I also had an emergency ultrasound on 6/6/00 due to light spotting without cramps or other indications of a miscarriage. The doctor did not find the FHR and diagnosis a blighted ovum. My OB/GYN wanted to monitor my hCG level to ruleout an ectopic pregnancy. My levels continued to increase at a normal rate and I recommended another ultrasound a week later by a reputable perinatal specialist. He had the same conclusion, blighted ovum but found it strange that my levels continued to increase and the sac had doubled in size. He suggested I wait for two weeks and repeat the proceedure but advised me that he did not expect different results. I waited and my OB/GYN called me to monitor my blood work. I am at 8 weeks, 4 days now. My hCG results were indiciate of a normal pregnancy and again, I was instructed to obtain another ultrasound. I requested the same specialist that had performed the second ultrasound and he confirmed that there was no fetus in the sac even though I continued to have increased hCG and daily morning sickness. I was even showing at 9 weeks. The doctors could not explain why I had a seemingly normal pregnancy without a fetus. My D&C was performed 1 day after 9 weeks. It has been a difficult process for me. I hope things turn out differently for you.
