Abnormal Bleeding

Thanks so much for this site. I've been lurking and getting educated for a couple of weeks and didn't exactly find the answer to my problem.

I'm 36 and have been having breakthrough bleeding and periods that are extra heavy for a few days and last 12 to 14 days. I've also had way more cramping than normal, all since November, getting worse each month. I went to my gynecologist a few weeks ago, who I had not seen in about 5 years (I'm a weanie - ok). She did an endometrial biopsy and an ultrasound. She said that I had fibroids and polyps, with the polyps needing to come out by way of hysteroscopic D&C. She's now on maternity leave until August, so she wants to do it then.

After reading around here, I've realized that I may not have given her the full picture, as I didn't volunteer any extra information. I've lost 45 pounds (just 30 left to go!) since January and I'm on Synthroid for hypothyroidism (she knew about the thyroid thing). I've read around here that both things could mess up your cycle. Any chance either of these could be the real source of my symptoms? Yes, I will ask her when she gets back in August, but meantime I'm hoping a change in thyroid medicine or patience getting used to a new body weight might help.
