An endometrial biopsy will pick up 85-90% of all endometrial hyperplasias or cancers. For this reason, if bleeding after the biopsy continues, a repeat evaluation should be carried out. This might be Hysteroscopy. Ultrasound is pretty good at picking up fibroids. A biopsy is not. A Saline Infusion Sonogram(SIS) is excellent for picking up polyps and submucosal fibroids as is hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopy usually needs an anesthetic and is usually done in the ambulatory surgery unit. Therefore ultrasound is less expensive. RDB
