Follicular Cyst

I was diagnosed with a follicular cyst on the right ovary 2 years ago. I had an ultrasound done last year and a catscan. I had another ultrasound done 2 months ago and the cyst is still there. I am 60 years of age and past menopause since 42 years of age. My doctor stated that this condition is common and non-cancerous. I went to several internet sites to gather information and I am unable to find out why my ovaries would still be funtioning at my age (60). Could someone answer my question?

Thank you
