My doctor gave me a prescription for Augmentin (250mg), but >I'm really scared about taking it. Augmentin is a Category B drug, which means it appears safe for use during pregnancy. I don't prefer it because I see a lot of yeast infections arising from oral penicillins like Augmentin when given during pregnancy, but it's an excellent oral antibiotic for a lot of infections, including UTIs. While bladder infections in pregnancy are common and are *usually* not a problem, if untreated about 40% will lead to kidney infections. Kidney infections can cause preventable hospitalization, absence from work, and even death. Further, they can lead to rapid preterm labor, which at very early gestational ages means the baby cannot survive. So, your ob/gyn was smart to treat you for this. Best wishes on an otherwise uneventful pregnancy.
