In my experience only about 10% of patients undergoing a cervical biopsy experience anything more than a small pinch, but that 10% *really* feels it. This may be due to a different nerve distribution, or that the biopsy was deeper than usual. So, I test the area by applying steady pressure with the biopsy device, to see if the patient feels pain. If so, a topical or injected anesthetic does the trick.

LEEPs, however, can really hurt unless adequate anesthesia is used. I can't imagine anyone doing a LEEP without significant anesthesia. We use a paracervical block, which involves injecting local anesthetic into the area around the cervix. After waiting a few minutes, the cervix is usually quite numb. I have to admit that I have had one or two patients (out of a lot of procedures) who have felt part fo the LEEP. However, nobody has ever kicked me (!) or become angry. I would ask your doctor's nurse what her or his policy is regarding anesthesia for LEEPs.

Good luck!
