Marchbein, M.D.: "Re: Promiscuity and HPV" I read with interest a recent post regarding HPV.I too remember the unfortunate comment regarding nuns and prostitutes when I was given this diagnosis.On doing some research however I discovered that HPV is the most common virus after rhinovirus.This probably means that most of the adult population has it[even if it is at undetectable levels.] What seems to be important is the strain of the virus.And I also found out that it is not exactly rare in nuns and it has also been detected in young girls who have never had sex.While it is most commonly found in women who have had multiple partners it is also common in women who haven't.So it is time that this unfair stigma was laid to rest.
