Re: Technician vs TechnologistFrom: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@exchange.uams.edu)Wed Dec 31 14:29:13 1997
Joan, thanks for the correction. I should have realized that it had been done. Happy New Year, Terry J. DuBose -----Original Message----- From: Joan P or Donald W. Baker [SMTP:jpbaker@sttl.uswest.net] Correction to this information. The SDMS Board already voted on this issue. There are about 1,000 ultrasound technician members of SDMS. That is the same as saying they are members who have not successfully completed an examination under ARDMS and are considered non-certified The SDMS Board is committed to develop a way to assist these members to become registered/certified. Ways to do this are currently being worked out by the education committee. The Board has also published in the last issues of the Newswave the APS membership category and this will be finalized before the April Board meeting. We are currently in the comment period. The Board also accepted and voted on the "sonographer" membership category. These are members who are ARDMS certified. Members who meet the criteria for APS may choose to become APS or may remain in the sonographer category, it is a member choice not a requirement. Terry is correct that we did not use the term technolgist out of respect for the vascular technologist. We have already put togther a brochure that explains this to the public and is in preparation for the Primetime Live Show. This brochure that has been such a hit will be sent to any member of the public requesting more information after the show airs January 14th. This is also the perfect time to get your colleagues to refer to each other as SONOgraphers and to educate the public ie the patients you see every day that you are a certified SONO grapher and what you are qualified in and that you learnt this profession and passed examinations etc etc. You can do more for yourself and the field by doing this very simple form of educating the public. Start today! Thanks Joan

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
