To track the CrystalEyes eyewear in three-dimensional space, an ultrasound array configured as a triangle of three speakers sits on top of the monitor. It sends signals along a line of sight to microphones incorporated in the eyewear. These microphones sample the transmitted signals 50 times per second.

The triangular ultrasound array and eyewear microphones are connected to a control unit via flexible cables. The control unit converts detected phase differences into spatial information, thus tracking the user's head position and allowing software to rapidly calculate new perspective views.

The user wearing CrystalEyes VR, that is, the eyewear equipped with ultrasound microphones, interacts with the image. Additionally, any number of viewers wearing CrystalEyes stereo eyewear can observe the first user's interactions.

Since CrystalEyes VR uses ultrasound technology to detect head position, it will not interfere with devices using infrared, electric or magnetic fields.

I am a certified diagnostic medical sonographer. Yes, it is more difficult to visualize the baby's genitalia prior to 16 weeks gestation, I recommend to my patients that I can not see this area until 20 weeks and after. I also explain to my patients that ultrasound is not 100% accurate, actually it is only 50% because a female may have enlarged labia which could mimic a scrotum or a small scrotum may mimic the labia. You have to understand we are not always correct, however we are to determine whether the baby has normal/abnormal anatomical structures. Ultrasound is for diagnostic purposes which does create a bond between the baby and the family. Ask the person doing the ultrasound whether or not they are ARDMS certified in obstetrics-gynecology. The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is the credentialing body for sonographers.
